At first glance, the plush chain looks soft, childlike and so lovable. It thus contrasts with conventional chains. Classic chains stand for possession, limitation and power. They hold tight, lock up, say: This is mine and not yours. Our nice chain is soft, it connects, comforts and gives support. It sets a frame and is at the same time brutally sweet, exemplary and contemporary sustainable. Responsibly, we have sewn this valuable chain from countless recycled stuffed animals. This not only makes use of existing resources, but also gives each stuffed animal its final purpose. Each chain link contains a cycle of closeness, support and security leading to separation, boundaries and disposal. Death and resurrection. We launched a call for donations of these process objects. Countless cuddly, funny, amusing and touching specimens were collected. The giving felt almost ritualistic. As if everyone had just been waiting to help these beloved friends and helpers reach an even higher purpose and finally make room in the basement. Collecting, sorting, taking apart. In an elaborate process, this becomes an object that is not just even cuter, but also raises various clever questions: Am I grown up yet? Does this belong in the trash? Am I allowed to play? Do you need me? Do we stick together? The work deliberately sets an accent against consumer behaviour that, even in an art context, is often focused on constant production. It does not claim to be the solution. But it contradicts. Quietly, softly and definitely. Text: Mickry3
